Our Mission

The Mission of the Pleasant Valley Police Department is to protect life and property, to prevent disorder, and to ensure the free flow of traffic throughout the community. The department is committed to building positive relationships with both the resident and business communities to ensure that Pleasant Valley is a safe place to live, work, and visit.

About Us

The Village of Pleasant Valley was founded in 1961 and became a 4th Class City in 1963. At that time, the police department consisted of an elected Marshall and three police officers.

Today the department has twenty-five positions and is managed by a career, professional Chief of Police. The Chief is appointed annually by the Mayor with the consent of the Board of Aldermen. Chief Jared McGinley currently leads the department.

In addition to the Chief of Police, current staffing consists of five full time Police Officers, two part-time Reserve Police Officers who assist with Municipal Court security, special events, and projects, two Police Detectives as well as four full time and seven part time Police/Fire/EMS Public Safety Communications Officers.

As of October of 2021, there were 48 Reported Part I Crimes. Public Safety Communications received 3,359 911 calls and 13,164 administrative calls of which Police Officers responded to 1,526 Calls for Service and made 2,804 arrests. Those arrests included City Criminal Code Violations, City and Outside Warrants, Failure to Appears, Nuisance Codes and Traffic Violations.
