Court starts at 6:00 PM

When you arrive at the Municipal building, you will need to check in with the Court Clerks at the front table. You will be asked your name and how you would like to plead. You may plead Guilty, Not Guilty, or ask for a Continuance. You will then take a seat in the court room and wait for the Judge to call your name.

 

When a person is issued a Pleasant Valley Municipal ticket, the ticket constitutes a summons to appear in Court. Nothing else will be mailed to you. It is the defendant’s responsibility to appear in Court or pay the citation by the Court date listed.

 

If the defendant does not pay the fine by the court date given or appear in court, a Failure To Appear citation will be issued which carries an additional fine of $100.00. This citation will give you a one time continuance with a new court date. 

 

If the defendant still does not appear a Warrant will be issued for their arrest. In addition, the court will notify the Department of Revenue of the defendant’s failure to appear and his or her driver’s license will be suspended.

 

We accept cash, money orders, cashier checks, or personal checks with picture ID.

If you choose to plead guilty and pay your fine you may do so in person or by mail. 

Please sign the Plea of Guilty and Waiver of Trial on the back of your ticket. By doing so this will constitute a waiver of your rights and you will be convicted of the offense described on the citation. When paying by mail, make sure your payment reaches us before your court date.

If you have been issued a citation/ticket, you have certain rights. 

You have the right to plead not guilty and have a trial with the Judge. You have the right to cross-examine witnesses who testify against you and you have the right to subpoena witnesses to testify on your behalf. You have the right to give your own testimony or to not testify. 

You also have the right to plead guilty. If you decide to sign the guilty plea on the reverse side of your citation, this will constitute a waiver of all your rights stated above and you will be convicted of the offense described on the citation.

 

If you feel that you are guilty of the offense listed on your citation and want to dispose of the ticket without a personal appearance in Court, then you may do so by paying the standard fine plus court costs in advance of the court appearance date shown on the citation. You must sign the back of the citation in the space provided and mail to the Municipal Court or pay in person.

 

We are located South of the Quick-Trip off of South Church on Royal Street.

If you are driving 35N take Exit 13 - go left at the stoplight, left again onto Pleasant Valley Road then left again on South Church. Royal will be the first street on your right, the Municipal Building will be on your left.

 

If you are driving 35S take Exit 14 - go right onto Pleasant Valley Road, left on South Church and Royal will be the first street on your right. The Municipal Building will be on your left.
